In many cases, at least in the United States, a home warranty is not a warranty at all, but rather a home service contract that covers the repair and/or replacement costs of home appliances, major systems such as heating and cooling, and possibly other components of a home, structural or otherwise. The home service contract generally covers home systems such as the home’s plumbing or electrical, and appliances like dishwashers that fail from old age/normal wear and tear. Coverage varies significantly across home warranty companies. Home warranty contracts do not cover all home repairs. Basic home warranty coverage includes the main systems of the home and certain appliances. Most companies cover plumbing, electrical, heating systems, as well as refrigerators, dishwashers, and Microwave ovens. Some charge additional coverage for appliances such as clothes washers and clothes dryers. A home warranty company will pay for the cost to repair or replace the system or appliance, as long as it has broken down from normal wear and tear. If the system or appliance failed because it wasn’t maintained the water heater was not flushed or the fridge’s evaporative coils were not cleaned, most home warranty contracts will not cover the cost to repair or replace it. Home warranties exist to repair or replace old worn out systems that have been properly cared for by the homeowner. Buyers should read the home warranty contract carefully to understand coverages, limitations, and exclusions.

It has been a month and a half, my dishwasher is still not working, these people do not work hard to resolve issues, do not call you back when they say they will, and clearly could care less about their customers. It's just a dishwasher. I'd hate to see how long they'd take if it was something serious like plumbing or an air conditioner. The claims department at HWA is a joke. Our A/C has been broken for 3 weeks now and every time I call I get someone else who immediately puts me on hold then tells me the same thing, the previous person told me and everyone of them has said, "I’ll follow up with a phone call or email to keep you posted". Do you know I haven’t received NOT 1 call or email. but hey they did say once again today, "Purchasing is trying to find the part. " I ask, "How long can this take, and let me speak to your supervisor. " so I spoke to someone who said she was a supervisor said I could call and talk directly to her so we can get this matter resolved. She was also supposed to follow up with an email that I’ve never received. Well once again a lie, these clerks claim there’s no way they can put me through to anyone in particular person.
